Jachtbouw de Alm, situated in Werkendam (The Netherlands), has recently delivered a beautiful classic boat with an electric drive which will be used for sailing in the greater Amsterdam area. This means that the boat is fully prepared for the new zero-emission regulations (that are expected to come into force in Amsterdam within a few years), this forces that pleasure crafts may only sail electrically.
In order to have sufficient sailing range and be able to charge the battery bank completely autonomously, a WhisperPower M-SQ PRO 18 3-phase (14.5 kW) diesel generator was chosen in combination with a Bellmarine 30kW electric drive and 96-volt traction battery bank.
This acts as a backup and is used to
- Recharge the 96-volt traction battery bank while sailing when the battery bank is discharged.
- As a direct power supply for the Bellmarine 30kW drive while sailing when the 96-volt traction battery bank is discharged.
- When the batteries are discharged, sailing can continue under all conditions.
The system of the boat is designed in such a way that a minimum of 10 hours of electric sailing is possible, before the generator has to be started. This makes the boat revolutionary and ready for the future!
