WhisperPower supports Dutch Women's Trans-Atlantic Rowing Challenge

Dutchess Of The Sea

The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Rowing Challenge is one of the toughest races on earth, so WhisperPower is proud to announce its support of the Dutch women's team.

The boat, Dutchess of the Sea, has been sponsored with a pair of the latest 12V 100Ah WhisperPower Lithium Ion batteries, which will power all the boat’s lighting and communication systems. The deep-cycle batteries will be recharged by strategically-placed solar panels during the gruelling 3,000 mile non-stop voyage.

The four women are making the journey to raise awareness for two major causes, the Plastic Soup Foundation and Neuromuscular Research. The first cause is about preventing the oceans being polluted by plastic to the extent they cease to properly support life. The second is to combat wasting muscular diseases.

One of the team members, Bela Evers, explained. “Our friend suffered from Amyothrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS),” she said. “By using our own muscle power for this major feat, we want to create awareness about this debilitating disease.”

Working in two-crew shifts of two hours on and two off, the team will need around 1.5 million oar strokes to cross the Atlantic from the start in the Canary Islands to the finish in Antigua.

“A tough race for a good cause needs a dependable power supply,” said Jorg Veen, who is responsible for WhisperPower’s sales in the Netherlands. “We are very proud to be able to offer such practical support, and know that these two batteries will perform flawlessly whilst offering a much smaller footprint and a third of the density of conventional lead acid equivalents. These are key factors during the voyage, where power, weight and space are all critical to success.”

The team departed on 12th December, abiding by all the necessary Covid restrictions, and you can follow their progress by clicking on the race-tracker link on the home page at:
