WhisperPower's demonstration ship underwent a substantial technical and cosmetic refit earlier this year. The project was carried out between January and May by a team of experienced maritime specialists in the field of electronics, mechanics and woodworking. The yacht, which was built in 2008 in Stavoren by De Volharding as a test-demonstration yacht for Mastervolt, has been equipped with up-to-date technology with new navigation, communication and comfort equipment. All systems are CANbus connectable to WhisperPower's WhisperConnect monitoring network that also enables remote reading and control. This concept is offered as an optional WhisperCare product to owners and operators of yachts, vessels, vehicles or objects without public grid connection.

In recent months, product training sessions have been held on board for WhisperPower customers and employees of Webasto International organized in the Hanseatic city of Kampen to introduce the new systems, in particular the new 32,000 BTU Blue Cool airco system. After the training sessions in the Netherlands, Independence started a trip to the Baltic Sea via the Dutch and German Wadden Islands, the Kieler Canal and Eckernforde, where the Nordic sales office of WhisperPower GmbH is located. Then via the inland lake – style waterways from Denmark to Copenhagen and via Stralsund (Ruegen), Rostock, Heiligenhafen back to Kiel and then back to Friesland.

With the latest techniques that are now available on the market, sailing becomes a lot more attractive and safer. The ship was already "full spec" in 2008, but things will age in those 10 years.

The electrical installation had already been tackled in recent years, see the single line diagram in the picture album below. The 14 kVA WhisperPower AC PowerCube inverter provides the entire AC on-board network, even with 10 ampere shore power for example, all 230 V devices can be used. The 27 kVA Whisper generator on board dates from the old days and is equipped with an 11 kW PTO hydraulic pump for stabilization at anchor (Naiad), which is and remains handy. The Piccolo M GV/2 (4.3 kW DC) is an excellent generator which is on average sufficient to power the on-board system and charge the 1650 Ah battery bank.

Most important addition are the two WhisperSolar panels (185 Wp /24 V) with the Suntrack Pro controller connected to the service battery and the Touch panel. The electric "dashboard" has been upgraded and is now more user friendly, non-electric functions have also been added, such as the air - conditioning and heating. Independence now also fitten with solar power appr 300 watt.

Next to the existing rear camera a FLIR infra-red night system model M232.

Webasto Blue Cool 32,000 BTU chiller system model C 32 T, connected to 4 air handlers. Equipped with the new digital controls, also suitable for heating control.

Other miscellaneous: new smart dingy lift, lift for e-bikes, improvement anchor winch (anchor chain remains on roll now), new 6-person life raft built into new storage at the back of outdoor kitchen, new propeller shafts, new bow / stern thruster screws etc.

Addition of 2 berths in the front boat, lifting tables allowing the addition of 2 double beds on board (10 berths now). In particular, the height and seating position of the benches were adjusted, and Neptune Marine was chosen as the supplier - great result, beautiful green/beige upholstery made of PET bottles (waste), new insulating floor covering, new dashboard frame. Stunning result.

Also new Ocean Air (supplied by Webasto) window covering with electric controls to replace the old curtains, and LED light strips were fitted throughout the ship (dimmable) at ceiling level.

Mast Yacht Painters had already repainted the entire ship from the outside in 2011, now spot varnish, underwater hull and spraying the outside cabinet.
